The Menehune of Kauai
THE MENEHUNE OF KAUAI
Menehune were little people, short but well-built. They were the first inhabitants of Kauai and numbered possibly half a million. They are now extinct.
Known to be quite shy, they inhabited the deep forests and hidden valleys, and worked only at night. Clever and strong, they were master builders who could complete major projects like fishponds and aqueducts in a single night.
According to myth, they shoot magic arrows to pierce the hearts of angry people and ignite feelings of love in them.
