“Gle” is a term that refers both to the physical mask and the individual spirit the mask is believed to embody. These spirits are invisible supernatural forces that live in the forest but esteem to enter the civilized world of the village. The masks are used during masquerade performances. There are several nails attached to the mask and the headdress is embellished with six-pointed stars.

Lundquist Collection 1980’s.
