Antique carved and painted wall panel from a Tongkonan (traditional ancestral house/rumah adat) of the Torajan peopel in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. In this traditional society, only nobles had the right to build a tongkonan. 
The rich swirling patterns were associated with ancestral energy.
