This bowl has an elegant shape and is carved from camphor wood (cinnamomum camphora), an evergreen tree with a dramatic color as well as a distinctive spicy scent, which may be sampled by rubbing a bit if sandpaper on the botttom.
Bowl making is an ancient Hawaiian tradition.
