Kele has used precious "curly koa", also called "tiger-stripe" (Triple A Grade Koa) to construct these paddles. Koa has long been the cultural anchor of Hawaii. In the old days, Koa was reserved for Hawaiian Royalty and was used to make the first surfboards, outrigger canoes and weaponry.
Each paddle is unique because of the grain of the wood. These paddles have been expertly finished with a light coating of lacquer to enhance the beauty of the grain.
Kele Hayward is our inhouse artist/woodworker, creating exclusively for Havaiki. In addition to these stunning paddles, he has created a scale model outrigger canoe and a display of recreated ancient Polynesian fish hooks.
Personally signed by the artist on one side.
Each comes with koa brackets for mounting horizontally or vertically.
