A very old and imposing mask. The seemingly furrowed brow and the downward gaze create a fierce look. The periphery once had a rim constructed of clay with imbedded nassarius shells; a small fragment remains on the right cheek. The mask is painted with white, grey, red and an unusual pinkish-yellow pigment. The eyes are filled with cowry and nassarius shells. There are two fringes: the first one is a wide zig-zag design of rattan, the second is grass fiber attached over the rattan. The nose is elongated with large nostrils and loops back up, with tassels in two of the three holes.
