The wild boars (Sus scrofa) on Kauai are called "pua`a" and are the descendants of the original pigs that the Polynesians brought with them as many as 800 years ago from the Society and Marquesas Islands.

The skull has been hand-painted with tribal tattoo designs by Heifara Aiamu, a local artist and musician.
